About the Changing Minds Campaign
Changing Minds campaign is Merthyr and the Valleys Mind's multi-faceted initiative on mental health in Merthyr Tydfil and Rhondda Cynon Taff.
Initially grant funded by Mind, the project has evolved with focusses on many key areas that will ensure that we cover many issues of interest to service users and the wider community.
In this long term programme, service users will work together as a team to campaign on issues affecting them. We also hope to raise awareness of mental health issues and help to reduce the stigma and discrimination associated with mental illness. The group will link in with statutory and voluntary groups and advise and lobby for improved mental health services and will act as a Consultation point for developments in mental health services.
We aim to work in partnership with all sectors and communities in order to tackle a long lingering taboo and one of the greatest social injustices.
People with mental health problems and carers consistently identify stigma and discrimination as major barriers to health, welfare and quality of life.
